A convicted sex offender who fought with a U.S. Marshal trying to arrest him was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday.
David Kapus, 47, of the 2000 block of Plainfield Road in Crest Hill was sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to a statement from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
A warrant was issued after Kapus received probation in 2015 for failing to register and then failed to report to the DuPage County Probation Department, according to the statement.
On March 23, detectives attempted to take Kapus into custody after he was found hiding in a closet above a washer/dryer unit in a Naperville home. As they tried to take him into custody, a detective attempted to use a stun gun on him, but was disarmed by Kapus, according to prosecutors. None of the detectives were injured.
Kapus pleaded guilty June 14 to a felony charge of disarming a police officer. His 10-year sentence was handed down by Judge George Bakalis.
